Ingredients for Algerian Freekeh Soup

Half a kilo of minced meat


2 chopped onions


4 tomatoes, chopped


garlic 2


1 green hot pepper


1 cup soaked chickpeas


a cup of chicken broth


celery leaves


bunch of fresh cilantro, chopped


3 tablespoons of olive oil


200 grams freekeh


a spoonful of tomato paste


tablespoon sweet red bell pepper


half a teaspoon of salt


black pepper


dry mint


liters of water

How to make freekeh soup

1 - Pour the frying oil into a large saucepan and leave until it is hot, then add the minced meat pieces, onion and garlic and fry them well.


2 - After the meat is well fried, add the chickpeas, celery leaves, coriander and all spices and mix well.


3- Next, add chopped tomatoes and leave on low heat for 5 minutes.


4 - Slowly add water over saucepan, then add tomato paste and chicken stock.


5 - Let the pot boil for 10 minutes, then add the semolina on top and leave for 15 minutes until the soup is ready to eat.


6 - You can decorate the dish with hot pepper and dried mint.
